Food Processing
Opportunity
Science Based Targets (SBTs) are bold and increasingly popular climate goals set by companies. The SBT intention is for corporate footprint reduction to match our best understanding of needed emissions reductions. In pursuing SBTs, a food processing client sought to enhance its sustainability performance and position as an industry leader.
Process
Climate Positive staff served as critical players to guide client staff through SBT requirements and build on previous GHG inventory work. A key part of our effort was to model future emissions, and pinpoint how much future emissions are likely to change in response to GHG reduction efforts. We also helped identify the major contributors to climate change throughout the supply-chain and suggested reduction strategies to reduce footprint.
Results
Our client successfully aligned on target(s) throughout the organization. Initiatives and capital investments for the next ten years are in the process of being charted out. As a bonus, our work supports report submission to CDP, the international platform for climate reporting.
